I’m sad, and embarressed :(?

Jorgensen – Telecaster guitar lesson

Hey! Well I love music, and I play guitar, piano and violin. But see, I was never sent to lessons when I was little because maybe my parents thought it was something I would quit after a week… So I thought myself when I was little, like I play by ear, and I CAN read music but I can’t read music and play at the same time…
But the point is, that other people my age, that took lessons, are now doing their grade 8s and stuff, while I’m still probably around 6 or 5.

So I auditioned for the school talent show, and was the only one in my music class that didn’t get in, its all everyone is going to be talking about for the next few days.

I’m not jealous or anything, I’m happy for everyone that got in, its just that I wish I got in too.. And this was like the 5th thing I auditioned for this year and didn’t get into, so doesn’t that mean i suck?

I mean, people say I’m good, but like, then how can I get to the standard everyone else is in, and be able to get into concerts and stuff……

I tried taking lessons, but they were now good, at this point I’m better off learning myself (since Ive came this far without them).. And I don’t really have the money for lessons at the moment.
sorry I meant to say, no* good

lessons must work, so try and get some, but don’t give up.

I think you’re doing just fine considering you are teaching yourself! Well done! Wish I could do that! Having dedication and being motivated is more important that the lessons and you’ll soon catch up. Feeling a bit fed up that you didn’t get the audition is hard but entirely natural. I think most people would feel the same. Just think to yourself “Oh, well, there will be other opportunities”. Just need to keep trying! Good luck! Don’t feel sad or embarrassed anymore, just put that to one side and start again with a clear mind.

I suspect you didnt get in because you didnt believe in yourself, you lacked in confidence. There’s no reason why you can’t play as well as anybody else, keep practising, get yourself some books out the library, teach yourself how to sight read, it takes years to truly master an instrument, so stay patient. How you play is entirely down to you and how much effort and time you put into it, doesnt matter if you have no lessons, if you put everything into it, you will get the results. Why bother entering for talent shows anyway, its just a bunch of people showing off, you’re not missing out on anything, just play for your own enjoyment

Practice makes perfect. Just go at your own pace. Don’t worry about everybody else,in the long run most of them will move on to other things. In time you’ll surpass them all if you stick with it.

If you really like music, you will do good and a lot of people will benefit from your performance. How you get there will not be easey and is not easy for the other people you describe. What anybody wants will be what they work for.
