Guitar Lessons: If I Fail My Maths GCSE (i Have TERRIBLE Maths Results) Can I Still Get Into University..?

Jeff 5.24.12

Ok, I don’t care how mean you want to be, just tell me the honest truth :’)

I do pretty okay in school, I get B’s and C’s in everything (apart from Maths obviously), and the occasional A.

Right here’s the part that hurts me the most haha, I just got my first Maths GCSE results back (I’m in year 10), I got 50 out of 100… That grade is a ‘U’ …

Baring in mind, I’m in second set for some odd reason, and they put me in for the higher paper, I guessed more than half of it.

My dream is to go to University, but with my terrible Maths grades I’m not even sure that I’m going to get into 6th form. There’s no use in me resitting my Maths because i’ll NEVER understand it.

I was so worried that I’d get nowhere in life because everyone’s always telling me ‘you’ll get nowhere without maths!’, so two years ago i took up Guitar and Piano lessons, just to make sure that i had at least SOMETHING going for me.

could I even make it to 6th form? :/
I doubt I’ll ever get into University…

Most sixth forms only as for 5 GCSEs A*-C, which it sounds like you should get, so that’s not a problem. However, some courses you may wish to do (mainly sciences) will probably ask for at least a B or C. Universities don’t really mind, as long as you have fairly good GCSE grades, only some will ask for at least a B is again, you are looking to do a science degree.

By the way, you may have dyscalculia if you are good in all other subjects apart from maths. i would advice looking into that, as if you can say that on your uni application, they will be understanding of your bad grade.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

50/100 on the higher paper is 50% which is B

I may have been on a different exam board, can you give me the exact grade boundaries and I will elaborate further in an edit.

Most unis require at least a C
    For good universities, a B
Oxford league, A(possibly) A* more likley

I highly recommend you get a MathsWatch CD! It is amazing and covers everything you need to know about GCSE Maths. Ask your school if they have them. Don’t worry, just study a lot and ask your teachers for some advice. Do past papers too. Hopefully you will do well;think positive! :)
