I got into electronic music making about a year ago and have set up a band which is now ready to play live. I do not have a single clue about laptops and live performance, i’ve heard all sorts of things about DI boxes and external sound cards, but don’t really get it. I need to know about how I go about connecting my laptop to an amp/P.A system.

Any useful links or direct advice would be much appreciated, thank you!

*As a side note the band consists of a drums, bass guitar, laptop with midi controller and a microkorg synth.

A lot of people ask me all the time how to change modes or to create a new sound. One way to do that is to use the relative minor and use the flatted 7 as your launching board. If you ever heard that Neo-Soul Hip-Hop McDonalds commercial that’s what that is. The circle of fifths is not just used to do the standard, but you can actually cycle 5ths and circle 4ths to create a nice Neo-Soul and Jazzy feel. Then you come back home to the 5. PS: Sorry for saying F# instead of Gb…Bad habit. I call it a circle of minors, because you are essentially in the relative minor or a mixture of a dorian mode by playing with the Db key and the Gb key which is the relative minor. The Gb and the Db share many of the same chords and notes. The flatted 7th in the key of Eb is Db and going to the Gb Major is the 4th of Db. Then going to the B is the fourth of Gb and the E is the flatted 7th of Gb. So between the flatted 7th’s and the relative minors, you can get a nice circle going on and make sure you come back home by hitting the Eb over Ab, or the five. Chords: 1. Ab Major 9 2. C Minor 9 3. And before anyone asks, yes my voice has dropped and I’m 19. Just to get that outta the way. I want to get into singing, I’ve been playing guitar for 7 years now and want to begin playing and singing. I have a decent voice, I can sustain a note and because I’ve been playing guitar I know about scales and all that jazz. Well my voice sounds pretty weak, I sound too much like a pop singer. I dunno if you’ve ever heard but I sound more like eric johnson singing, link here if you don’t:

I want a more rough voice, I sound like a puff. Do I just have to accept the fact that I sound like a puff when I sing or can I change it? Don’t suggest smoking because I’m doing that just to be able to sing.
Oh, I’m a slightly heavy drinker. Dunno if this helps at all.

I have a couple of problems which I’m not sure about.
I can spell yet my handwriting and the amount of spelling mistakes I make writing words I know is just silly, I am a slow reader and just can’t read long books to save my life, while reading I always skip a few words, lines and frequently misread words which are right in my face.it takes me literally 15 minutes of silence just to get into the atmosphere or learning and then another couple of minutes to write something down, I have a bad habbit of distracting class mates while in the process, but not to have a laugh, but because I’m not sure on what to do. The thing is, socially Im not to great too, if I have to read aloud at school, I hesitate horribly and lose my ability to read and follow my peers, also, I’m extremely sensitive to people calling me dumb or telling me I suck at stuff, even though I have high minimum and target grades. Ialot of the time mess up again. As for concentration, I constantly day dream or just find it hard to take in simple things that people are saying, it’s as if I forget as soon as they tell me, because of it, I usually get really good days followed by pretty much horrible days. I am pretty good at maths however me and maths never get along quite well, In order to know what I have to do, I have to have my teacher repeatedly telling me the same thing individually, but then again I sometimes terrorise people ini my subjects. It makes no sense to me. I don’t knowif it has much to do with it but I love sports, I’ve been swimming for 8 years and Been playing the guitar and piano quite well. As a side note my syster is dyslexic.
Somebody help me and educate me please, what could I do to improve? And if your wondering wy my spelling is okay here, it’s the auto correct feature.
